Breast reduction: What do you need to keep in mind?
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is a procedure designed to reduce the size and weight of the breasts by removing excess breast tissue, fat and skin. For some women, having disproportionately large breasts can cause physical discomfort, affect posture and make everyday activities more difficult.
Breast reduction can help create a breast size and shape that feels more proportionate to your body. The procedure is tailored to each individual, taking into account your existing breast size, shape, skin quality and personal goals.

What is breast reduction?
Also known as: Reduction mammoplasty | Boob reduction
Does the large size of your breasts make you feel self-conscious while causing you terrible pain and discomfort? A breast reduction surgery can bring you immense relief.
This is a surgical procedure by which incisions are made and excess fat, skin and glandular tissues are removed. Your nipples and areola are repositioned appropriately, and the skin is reshaped as per the smaller size. The incisions are then closed up. The result? Smaller, lighter, and symmetrical breasts that look great and feel even better.

Breast reduction: What should you consider?
- This isn’t a one-size-fits-all procedure! Our surgeons will assess your individual case and advise you on the size to which your breasts can safely be reduced.
- This is a complex surgery that requires finesse and expertise – the likes of which our renowned surgeons can provide.
General anaesthesia will be administered during the surgery. - You will feel sore after the procedure, but will be prescribed medication to manage the pain.
- You will need to wait at least a week before you can resume light activities. Please refrain from heavy activities until 6 weeks after the procedure.
- Your breasts will feel firm and swollen after the surgery. But give it a few weeks and they will settle to your desired size.
- You may have post-surgery scars along the incisions. These will fade to a great extent over time.
Why choose a breast reduction?
Common concerns associated with larger breasts can include:
- Neck, shoulder and upper back discomfort
- Shoulder grooves caused by bra straps
- Skin irritation or rashes beneath the breasts
- Difficulty finding comfortable or well-fitting clothing
- Restrictions when exercising or taking part in physical activities
- Feeling self-conscious about breast size or proportions
Breast reduction is not simply about making the breasts smaller. The aim is to create a size and shape that is appropriate for your body while maintaining as natural an appearance as possible.

How long do the results last?
This is a permanent procedure so you do not have to worry about any follow-up surgeries. Our medical team will ensure you get your desired shape and size, with minimal scarring.
