Mr Deme is considered one of the top doctors in this field and has appeared on Channel 4’s Body shockers series in various episodes.
Sunion Health: How many breast surgeries have you performed, and how has your approach evolved over the years?
Mr Deme: Over the years, including my training years and fellowships, I have performed roughly around 500 breast surgeries, mostly breast augmentations, mastopexy and breast reduction procedures.
I have refined my skills by incorporating advances in minimally invasive techniques, reduced scarring, measurements and imaging techniques. I have adopted methods to optimise aesthetic and functional outcomes, emphasising patient-centred care, involving shared decision-making to align outcomes with each patient’s unique goals.
I have a keen interest in following and staying up to date with the latest guidelines and techniques, research data and actively participate in conferences and meetings.
S H: How do you decide which procedure is right for a patient?
Mr Deme: Each type of breast surgery requires a personalised approach, tailored to the patient’s unique anatomy, medical history, and aesthetic preferences.
During the clinic consultation we discuss together the patient’s needs, expectations, reasons for choosing the procedure, perform measurements considering individual body frame, breast dimensions, etc.
S H: What advice would you give to someone who is anxious about undergoing breast surgery?
Mr Deme: Patients can often feel anxious about undergoing breast surgery or any other type of cosmetic surgical procedure, and it is completely normal for them to feel so.
I would encourage patients to do their research, and consider their motives behind choosing a certain procedure. It’s good to ask questions during the clinic consultation, reflect at home, and request testimonials. Patients should also consult with other clinics and surgeons to ensure that they understand and are getting the complete picture.
I explain to patients the recovery period, time needed off-work, changes in lifestyle, in an honest, transparent and approachable manner.
S H: Have you noticed any trends in breast surgery requests? (such as more patients opting for natural-looking results or specific types of implants)
Mr Deme: Patients are now opting for more natural looking results, and in terms of implants, I ensure that it matches the patient’s measurements, and that their expectations are realistic.
Based on the medical history of the patient we also ensure the procedure is safe for them and will result in a good and natural looking shape, which is what most of our patients opt for, and I also thoroughly support and recommend.
S H: What sets Sunion Health apart in terms of patient care and breast surgery outcomes?
Mr Deme: I consider Sunion Health to be a well-run, professional, transparent, trustworthy and caring clinic, conveniently located for patients both from London and for those travelling in and out of London.
The ongoing support that they receive, in a familiar and caring environment, I think it makes a positive difference and patients have given positive feedback and appreciated this.
S H: What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone considering breast surgery for the first time?
Mr Deme: I encourage patients to do their research, closely examine their motives behind choosing a certain procedure.
